Animal symbolism
Bat
What the tradition holds
Read as rebirth and as navigating the dark by other means than sight.
Where that reading came from
Bats find their way by echo, which is the closest thing in nature to seeing with sound. The rebirth reading comes from roosting in caves and emerging at dusk.
Bats appear at dusk in insect season. A summer evening explains most of it, and the dark you are navigating may still be real.
