Animal symbolism
Blue jay
What the tradition holds
Read as a call to speak up, and as a warning about who is being loud on your behalf.
Where that reading came from
Jays imitate hawk calls to clear a feeder, mob predators in groups, and steal from other birds. The tradition is describing a real habit of taking the room.
Notice whether the jay showed up on a day you were deciding whether to say something. That is the version of this you can actually check.
