Cricket
What the tradition holds
Read as luck and as the sound of a house being lived in. Strongly lucky in Chinese tradition.
Where that reading came from
Crickets chirp at a rate that rises with temperature, closely enough that you can read the air temperature from the count.
A cricket indoors is a warm night and an open door. It is also, traditionally, good news.
