Fish

What the tradition holds

Read as abundance and as what moves below the surface. The koi that swims upstream and becomes a dragon is the persistence version.

Where that reading came from

Koi were bred from carp for colour in nineteenth century Japan. The dragon story is older and Chinese, and it is about a waterfall.

Note the setting. A fish in a pond, in a dream and on a plate are three different entries.
