Animal symbolism
Hummingbird
What the tradition holds
Read as joy, and as a reminder that the small and quick is not the same as the unimportant.
Where that reading came from
A hummingbird can hover, fly backwards and cross the Gulf of Mexico without stopping, at a body weight of about four grams. The symbolism is an accurate description of the bird.
They come to feeders and to red flowers. If they have started appearing, check whether something in the garden changed before deciding what the visit means.
