Animal symbolism
Moth
What the tradition holds
Read as being drawn toward a light, and the risk that comes with that. Sometimes read as a message from the dead in the same way as the butterfly.
Where that reading came from
Moths navigate by keeping a constant angle to a distant light such as the moon. A nearby bulb turns that into a spiral. The tragedy in the symbol is a navigation error.
A moth at a window is a lit room. Whether you are circling a light of your own is a separate question and a fair one.
