Animal symbolism
Raccoon
What the tradition holds
Read as masks and dexterity: what is hidden, and what can be opened by hands that should not be able to open it.
Where that reading came from
Raccoons have extraordinarily sensitive forepaws, solve latches, and remember the solution for years. The mask is a face marking that reduces glare.
They are on a bin route. The symbol arrives with the rubbish schedule more often than with the moment.
