Forest
The unknown entered on foot. Dark, alive, and not hostile in itself, though every folk tale agrees it is easy to get lost in and hard to get instructions about.
Where the reading comes from
The selva oscura opens Dante and the forest opens most European tales, always at the point where the ordinary path has run out.
Was there a path? What were you looking for in there, and did you come out.
