Drought

The absence of the thing that usually flows. Where flood is too much feeling arriving at once, drought is the same axis at the other end: a period in which what nourished is simply not there. The tradition treats it as a phase with an end rather than as a verdict, and reads the search for water in the dream as the important part.

Where the reading comes from

The wasteland is the standing form of this in the Grail material, where the land is barren because a question has not been asked. That detail is worth keeping: the cure in the story is a question rather than an effort.
