Hexagram 13: Fellowship
People joined by something larger than their own group. The tradition is specific that fellowship in the open works and fellowship in the clan does not, because the second is a faction wearing the same word.
The image
Fire under heaven, rising toward it. The reading is that a person sorts things by kind, so that what belongs together is together and what does not is not.
Heaven, above
Force, and the initiative that does not wait to be asked.
Fire, below
Clarity, attachment, and what depends on its fuel.
The six lines
- Line 1Fellowship at the gate. In the open, at the start. No blame.
- Line 2Fellowship in the clan. Humiliation, and the smallness is the reason.
- Line 3Weapons in the thicket, climbing the hill to watch. Suspicion, three years of it.
- Line 4On the wall and not attacking. Turning back at the last moment is the good fortune.
- Line 5They weep first and then laugh. Great forces meet and get through.
- Line 6Fellowship in the meadow, outside the walls. No remorse, and no great achievement either.
