Hexagram 43: Breakthrough

Lake (still water held in a hollow) over Heaven (the sky)

A resolute decision, and the tradition surrounds it with caution: announce it truthfully at court, do not resort to arms, and know that the danger in a breakthrough is the person making it.

The six lines

Read from the bottom up.

1. Line 1Strong in the toes and going anyway. Not equal to it, and that becomes the fault.
2. Line 2A cry of alarm in the night, and nothing to fear. Prepared, so the alarm passes through.
3. Line 3Strong in the face, going alone, caught in the rain and resented for it. No fault in the soaking.
4. Line 4Walking is hard and you are being led like a sheep. The regret lifts; the advice is not believed.
5. Line 5Dealing with weeds takes resolution. Keep to the middle while you do it.
6. Line 6No warning cry, and misfortune at the end. The one thing left undealt with is the one that returns.
